Scottish saxophonist Lewis Banks is a musical moving target, and no stranger to diverse and adventurous concert programming. His new project, Chrysalis, is equally broad, a sentiment exemplified by the new works specially commissioned for this performance.
Electra Perivolaris’ (RCS alumni) contemporary classical stylings and experimental soundscapes sit unapologetically alongside Stuart McCallum’s jazz-tinged electronica. Straddling the divide, Graham Fitkin’s 2005 work, Passing, hypnotises with its brooding drone backing and genre-ambiguous saxophone lines.
Released on Eleven Kinds Records in 2021, Chrysalis now comes to life as a magical live experience, celebrating blurred genre – lines for what they are: exciting, uninhibited places to make music.
