Studio Bizio is pleased to announce that we will be exhibiting Galina Kurlat's photographs and tintypes.
Galina's work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX and the Harry Ransom Center, Austin, TX.
Her photographs were recently shown as part of Photo Jinju in South Korea.
Three of her tintype portraits were included in Diffusion IX, published in 2017.
Each of Kurlat's tintype portraits is a unique work of art, a collaboration between the sitter and the artist. Because of the wet collodion process, there is a limited window during which the image can be created and captured on the metal sheet. The finished tintype emerges approximately 10 minutes later. Unlike digital pictures or paper prints that are eminently reproducible, each has an object quality, a "heft" and presence.
