An exciting annual festival with a programme of high-quality arts, heritage, environmental and water sports activities. The festival takes place along the Forth & Clyde Canal in the heart of Glasgow.
The Glasgow Canal Festival is a celebration of the canal, the surrounding community and the unique assets offered here including; Heritage, Environment, Arts and Sports.
Come and while the day away along the banks of North Glasgow’s stretch of canal. Discover hidden storytelling corners, take part in a family-friendly arts workshop, try your hand at canoeing or race down the canal with a team of friends. You can enjoy live music, theatre performances, unique tastes from a range of food experiences and a mix of stalls where you can learn and buy craft and handmade goods.
The 2020 Glasgow Canal Festival will feature for the first time ever a Canal Carnival Flotilla, a parade of boats adorned with large-scale carnivalesque artworks which will travel down the Forth and Clyde Canal in North Glasgow. These floating artworks will be accompanied by costumed performers on the ground who will ‘drag’ the boats with symbolic brightly coloured ropes, reminiscent of boat horses in days gone by. We will explore themes of migration, journeys, identity and celebrate the diversity of Glasgow’s communities which will be represented across the festival and explored in storytelling, dance, installation and song.
