The Dutchman, Hans Weehuizen, is well known in the shanty festival
circuit as a performer on bones and concertina. His famous workshop on
“How To Play The Bones” offers the chance to learn one of the
oldest rhythmic instruments. A favourite of whalermen who used
whalebone, nowadays hardwoods offer a more musical (and ethical)
alternative. You’ll learn how to hold the ’bones’ and to play
different rhythms to accompany songs and shanties. Hans will supply
all participants (maximum 15) with all you will need to be the rhythm
section of any shanty crew. 12:00 at the Rockfield Centre’s Ash room
on Saturday 25th June.
