Rob Heaslip Dance, with Glasgow Life, is providing a workshop for those interested in Gaelic within performance work.
Participants will work with vocalists Alasdair Whyte and Michelle O’Rourke to explore the possibilities for using Gaelic song in the context of contemporary work. Both Alasdair and Michelle will guide participants to find ways in which traditional Gaelic song might be heard, interpreted, abstracted and recontextualised.
This work is drawn from research and development for Heaslip's ‘A Glimpse of Flesh and Blood’ trilogy; his vocal research was enriched by the repertory of Alasdair Whyte, then refracted through O’Rourke’s contemporary vocal sensibility. The trilogy takes inspiration from the Gaelic communities of Scotland and Ireland
Participants are encouraged to bring songs, come ready to sing, explore, play and to step into the abstract.
This workshop is free to participate in, but there are limited places so advance booking is essential. Email firstname.lastname@example.org
