Since Edinburgh-based, award-winning publisher of Latin American literature Charco Press first launched, the press and independent bookshop Golden Hare Books have created a close friendship based on a love of books, reading and translation. How better to celebrate Book Week Scotland than with a Scottish publisher doing amazing things? At this event, we celebrate new novel Loop by Brenda Lozano, a Mexican writer, translated by Annie McDermott. Loop is a love story: a woman waits at home for her boyfriend to return from a trip to Spain, a sort of contemporary Penelope who writes and erases her thoughts in a notebook; these thoughts are woven together in this tapestry of longing and waiting. The prose is sometimes written in an irreverent style, in fragments (at points it almost reads like haiku). On the evening, we'll be joined by Loop translator Annie McDermott and Charco Director Carolina Orloff, and we'll have a reading of Loop in Spanish by Brenda Lozano, exclusively recorded for this event. Don't miss your chance to hear about how this new work from one of Latin America's most exciting writers came to be, from one of Scotland's most important publishers. The event is free, but booking is essential. Doors open at 6pm.
