The Inveraray Highland Games owes its inception to Mary Queen of Scots. When the Countess of Argyll visited in 1563, the young men of the district entertained her with their athletic prowess. Today’s challengers compete in many of the same tests of strength and endurance. These include heavy events such as the Caber World Championship as well as backhold wrestling, running, cycling, the high and low jump, and junior events for children. Listen to the Open Competition for the Great Highland Bagpipe, and see Highland dancers give it their all.
