The Isle Martin Trust will present an extraordinary and fascinating festival celebrating the rich seaweed life of our shorelines in a host of ways.
This unique weekend festival will encourage the enjoyment of our local inland coastal waters in a sustainable way, and will combine extensive collective local knowledge, skills and creativity with that of renowned national experts.
Travel just three miles north of the bustling port of Ullapool to Ardmair, and a short boat ride takes you to the beautiful, uninhabited Isle Martin – our community owned island, the nearest of the stunning Summer Isles.
Our ecologically focused festival will offer a host of fun and informative events, including shoreline walks and talks on seaweed identification and foraging sustainably, alongside illustrated presentations on seaweed's local biodiversity importance and global climate mitigation value.
The festival will host art installations, music and the spoken word inspired by the rich diversity of seaweed, with demonstrations and creative workshops to have fun joining in with. These activities will link in to uncovering the fascinating historic, economic and cultural importance of seaweed in the Highlands and Islands.
