Glasgow Libraries have a rich heritage of delivering library services within library buildings, old and new, in diverse communities across the city. This year a number of our historic libraries celebrate special anniversaries, which we will commemorate with exciting events in these beautiful buildings.
Since opening on the 20th of February 1925, Shettleston Library has been a much loved part of the local community. Over the past 100 years the library has offered books, classes, groups, study space, pcs, a warm welcoming place and more for people of all ages.
As part our centenary celebrations, we are delighted to welcome global bestselling author Jenny Colgan.
Jenny, who has sold over 15 million books and has a strong national and international readership, joins us on Tuesday the 18th February to discuss _Close Knit_ her brilliant new, feel-good love story about the joy of knitting, community and love! A fitting book for a library which is home to a lovely and long-running knitting group.
Gertie has always had her head in the clouds, wondering what her life might be like if she could only pluck up the courage to leave the remote Scottish island where she was born.
It's the only place she knows, but you can't do anything there without _everyone_ knowing - the glue of this close-knit community is the Knitting Circle, a group of strong, capable and frankly nosy women who work hard, gossip, knit and support each other through thick and thin. At the centre of this sisterhood is Gertie's mum Jean and her grandmother Elspeth, and the three generations of women live together, surrounded by wool, in one small cottage.
When the chance comes to make changes - a new job working with old schoolfriend Morag on the local airline, new friends and even a possible new romance - a world of possibilities opens up before Gertie. Is this the way to make her dreams come true?
