Originally scheduled as part of Celtic Connections 2022, Scotland based Jamaican singer-songwriter iBrina pays homage to the idea of Home at Merchant City Festival, inviting a world-class ensemble of musical friends to join her for a night of dynamism and transcultural expression. Born in the rural hills of central Jamaica; this dynamic and powerful singer songwriter grew up under the direct influence of not just her family of singers but with inspiration from Reggae legends and world-music singers such as Angelique Kidjo and Miriam Makeba. Journey From Jamaica tells the story which echoes the unfolding of iBrina’s quest from Jamaica, making Scotland her home since 2010 following the dream of building an international music career. Journey from Jamaica will climax over two nights of thought-provoking sight, sound, and audience interaction delivered by the stellar line-up of musicians accompanying iBrina on stage: Phil Alexander, Mario Caribé, Tom Bancroft and Nathan Somevi. The stage is set and igniting a stirring relevance to experience the musical journey with iBrina- Jamaica’s daughter pioneering along a Scottish adventure.
Presented as part of Merchant City Festival by Celtic Connections and supported by EventScotland as part of the Year of Stories 2022.
