The first live outing for a new collaboration between multi-award-winning singer-songwriter Karine Polwart and renowned jazz/folk pianist Dave Milligan – longtime friends and neighbours - featuring material from their exquisitely-crafted duo album Still As Yourg Sleeping, released in October 2021. “One voice and one piano can hold a lot of space, a lot of feeling”, says Polwart of the recording’s less-is-more format, which is replicated here. Tracks include both venerable traditional songs and brand-new originals, together with covers of material by such diverse authors as Michael Marra, Alasdair Roberts and Kate McGarrigle, tracing themes that range from the sorrow of parting to the nature of geological deep time.
“A gem of a duo album” (The Scotsman)
Widely ranked with the likes of Andy Irvine and Paul Brady as a transcendent folksong interpreter, Dubliner Daoirí Farrell returns to Celtic Connections following yet more ecstatic reviews for his Dónal Lunny-produced third album, 2019’s Lifetime of Happiness. He’s joined by uilleann piper Mark Redmond and Robbie Walsh on bodhran.
“Effortless, instinctive, natural. . .the real deal” (Mark Radcliffe)
