Kevin Mackenzie has been a creative force on the Scottish jazz scene over the past thirty years and has contributed to innumerable sessions in both jazz and traditional music, where his accompaniment talents are much sought after.
His music reflects his interest in these two styles and his current trio, with Mario Caribe (bass) and Doug Hough (drums), follows critically acclaimed groups including his large scale Vital Signs in presenting music that communicates directly with the listener and celebrates melody and optimism.
The trio's recent release, The Ballad of Future Joe has been enthusiastically reviewed, with award-winning jazz website Bebop Spoken Here saying:
“This is a most enjoyable recording and I would unreservedly recommend it not just to lovers of contemporary jazz guitar but also to the wider jazz audience. I love it. “
