Mairi is a captivating singer-songwriter from Perth, Scotland, whose elegant songwriting, complex finger-style guitar and thoughtful lyrics have been quietly turning heads across Scotland. Her music blends folk-rooted melodies with subtle touches of prog influence, bringing her songs to life not just on stage but also through her own handcrafted illustrations and animations.
September saw the release of Mairi's debut EP 'Uncanny Comparisons. Partially funded by YouthMusic and recorded at GloWorm Recording in Glasgow, the EP offers a raw, honest, beautifully cohesive and live-sounding collection of songs, many of which were written in the dawn of her twenties, critically yet playfully analysing her anxieties and vices. Open tunings and intricate finger-style guitar playing adorned by her soulful vocals transfix the listener throughout the movement of her song-writing, whilst gorgeous and subtle production by acclaimed Scottish musicians Hannah Fisher and Sorren MacLean accentuate the dynamics and mood of the songs.
Previously, Mairi released a series of live tracks - filmed and recorded by fellow art graduates - that capture the raw, intimate essence of her performances. She has also performed at a variety of stages, including Glastonburys Avalon Caf, Eden Festival, Dougie MacLeans Perthshire Amber Festival and Moniaive Folk Festival to name just a few.
