This event is part of Sharmanka's programme of live performances by local and international musicians, artists and performers.
An Evening of Words & Music. Join us for a mesmerising evening where poetry and music intertwine in the uniquely atmospheric setting of Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre.
Poet Charles McKenzie was once a writer who did not write, a poet who did not "poe"until longtime friend and musician Mark Rushbury finally issued an ultimatum. Encouraged (or rather, nudged onto the stage) by Rushbury and inspired by the raw performance of poet Thick Richard, Charles made his debut right here at Sharmanka. Now, the words wont stop, and he wouldnt have it any other way. His performances are sharp, playful, and filled with the pulse of Glasgow itself. Charles says: "This show will be spectacular. I am small and live in a small castle in the southside of Glasgow with my small family. We have big hearts."
Singer-songwriter Owen McAulay, a longtime member of Glasgow band Smackvan, has spent decades crafting music that lingers in the soul. With eleven solo albums to his name, his songs carry the weight of experiencestories woven from a life dedicated to family, social work, and the enduring power of song. His music is thoughtful, intimate, and deeply moving. (http://owenmcaulay.bandcamp.com)
Together, these two artists promise an unforgettable nightwhere words and melodies collide, echoing through the gears and shadows of Sharmankas kinetic sculptures.
A Message from Charles & Owen:
"We would like to thank our brilliant friends at Sharmanka for inviting us to perform in this, the most magical of all of Glasgow's magical places. It is an honour and a privilege to enter this sacred room, never mind be asked to perform in it once again. We love you, Sharmanka. Everyone should have some kinetic sculptures as friends."
The event will be followed by a mini performance of Sharmanka's kinetic artworks. There are a limited number of tickets to fill this intimate space, so if you want to be there, the soundest advice is to book early!
