The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra's star alto saxophonist, Martin Kershaw and brilliantly accomplished pianist Paul Harrison celebrate the centenary of bebop pioneer Charlie Parker.
Kershaw has won acclaim for a variety of projects, including his own musical interpretations of works by artists and authors and the tribute to soul-jazz titan Cannonball Adderley, Mercy Mercy Mercy. With the SNJO he has worked alongside major names such as Gary Burton, Kurt Elling, John Scotfield and Randy Brecker, playing jazz from the eras of Ellington and Basie through Weather Report and onto contemporary compositions.
As one of the founders of the award-winning Playtime sessions in Edinburgh he has also covered the gamut of jazz. playing the repertoires of pianists Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett, sxophonists Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane and Art Pepper and creating spontaneous music of considerable depth and constructed in-the-moment structure.
Paul Harrison has a similarly wide appreciation and command of jazz styles, leading the electro-experimental group Sugarwork, playing Brazilian music by the masterly Egberto Gismonti in Trio Magico and accompanying singer Carol Kidd.
