Growing up he was more likely to hear Red Hot Chili Peppers or Simply Red playing in the house rather than Tupac or Biggie Smalls. What started out as poems quickly became bars, and eventually, Master Peace placed a bet with a schoolmate who was up-and-coming on Soundcloud. They each released a track on the same day - Master Peace’s first-ever release - and his catchy debut outstripped his friend’s for plays.
Luckily, that was just the beginning. With his expansive library of hip-hop, pop and indie music, Master Peace has gone on to create unique music juxtaposing nostalgic alternative rock with contemporary sounds of street music. After doing grime sets at London-based radio stations such as Radar, he wanted to break the mould and experiment with drum patterns from his favourite bands and his own unpolished flow. The resulting sound feels refreshingly filter-free - a novel idea in this generation which appeals to young people who are tired of the perfection seen every day on social media.
