Saxophonist Matt Carmichael and pianist Fergus McCreadie are two of
the vibrant young Scottish jazz scene’s trailblazers and have been
described as among the most exciting young jazz musicians in Europe.
Their music, individually and collectively, is fresh and invigorating,
reflecting their Highland birthplaces and their love of the Scottish
landscape and musical traditions as well as their studies of American
and European jazz. Recently signed to the prestigious Edition Records
label, Matt made a huge impression with his self-released debut album,
Where Will the River Flow in 2021. BBC Music Magazine hailed Matt as
"a distinctive new voice in a crowded scene" and The Times predicted
that “he’s going to be huge.” Fergus has now added BBC Radio
Three New Generation Artist status to his extensive list of awards and
titles. His first album, Turas, won Album of the Year at both the
Parliamentary Jazz Awards and the Scottish Jazz Awards and the
subsequent Cairn and this year’s Forest Floor have earned five-star
reviews and critical acclaim including “the most beautiful music you
can hear in jazz at the moment” from Dutch website Written in Music.
