All the way from St Petersburg and returning to Brighton for only the second time ever and after an absence of 6 years STAY SICK is proud to present MESSER CHUPS!!! Join us for what will be a killer night of spooktacular haunted surf rock and roll as we hail the return of Guitaracula and Zombierella
MESSER CHUPS
Formed in 1998 Messer Chups is the project of Russian composer Oleg Gitarkin, aka Guitaracula, and while the band's instrumental rock is hard to neatly categorise, it's safe to say it would be enjoyed by fans of rockabilly, horror punk, scratchy surf records, Italian slasher films, My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, pulp fiction, lounge music, Ed Wood, theremin, The Cramps, Russ Meyer movies and the theme song from The Addams Family.
Aurally Messer Chups combine surf, beats, cult film samples, scratchy historical recordings, Russian B-movies, lounge and cartoon sounds from the 50s and 60s over weird vintage keyboard chirps and groovy horn loops all to the coolest backdrop of mid 20th century projections from trash cult movies; think Betty Page, Bela Lugosi , zombies flicks, Russ Meyer's and Ed Wood's heroes.
Accompanied by the infamous Zombierella on bass and Rockin' Eugene on drums, Gitarkin, and Messer Chups will be bringing the haunting hallowe'en vibes early this year and we can't wait!
Plus! Support comes from the amazing, and long, long, long, lonnng overdue STAY SICK debut of...
LOS FANTASTICOS
"Los Fantasticos have been perfecting their blend of instrumental Surf n Spaghetti since forming in 2004 in the twin cities of Brighton and Hove on England's south coast. While not exactly the world's hardest working band, their blend of reverb-heavy guitars, pounding drums, skittering bass rhythms and just a hint of Mariachi trumpet has earned them plaudits in many of the right places. Los Fantasticos have shared the stage with some of the giants of the genre, including The Phantom Surfers, The Bambi Molesters, The Phantom Four, Messer Chups, The Razorblades, Surfin Lungs and The Atom Jacks. They have appeared twice at the world's largest surf music festival, The Surfer Joe Summer Festival, in Livorno, Italy and at The North Sea Surf Festival at the legendary Melkweg in Amsterdam!
In their usual lazy way, Los Fantasticos continue to play the (very) occasional storming gig, while writing and recording material for their fifth album, which may even be released one day." LF
Fingers crossed that album sees the light of day!
