Robert Plane, clarinet and Gould Piano Trio
Brahms: Piano Trio No 3 in C minor op.101. Tibor Serly: Chamber Folk Music for clarinet, violin and piano. Amy Beach: Piano Trio in A minor, Op 150. Walter Rabl: Quartet in E flat for clarinet and piano trio, Op 1.
Leading British clarinettist Robert Plane joins the acclaimed Gould Piano Trio for a delightful programme that will be a real journey of discovery. Brahms needs no introduction but Viennese composer Walter Rabl is little known today though his quartet is a minor masterpiece that impressed Brahms himself. After a long struggle against prejudice Amy Beach finally emerged as America’s leading composer in the 1890s and her own strong personality shines through her A minor Piano Trio. The warm colours of Hungarian-American composer Tibor Serly’s Hungarian folksong-inspired music perfectly complement the Brahms.
