During this 2 day class Kevin will introduces participant to the basics of mold making and casting using clay and plaster. Creating molds is a simple technique that allows you to make repeated and perfectly formed ceramics. Exploring themes and techniques present in his work, participants will initially use a combination of found, gathered and brought objects to produce simple textured tiles/forms. These forms will go on to be used to cast low-level plaster reliefs/one piece sprig molds. Following this, Kevin will provide an introduction to making multiple piece molds and slip casting, a method of making ceramic objects using liquid clay and multiple piece plaster molds. Participant’s ceramic objects will go on to be completed using a range of slip decoration and finishing techniques and will be fired for collection after the course. This course is suitable for complete beginners and those with experience in ceramics.
