A Celebration Concert
50 years ago, Our Lady’s Musical Society (as OLHSFPALOS) performed “The Vagabond King” in the brand new Motherwell Concert Hall, it’s very first musical show. On Friday 27th May, it will, with partners North Lanarkshire Council, present “Musical Harmony” a concert with items to please all music lovers.
Motherwell’s celebrated soprano, Monica McGhee, will be flying up from London to head the cast. Monica sang for the Queen in the Golden Jubilee pageant on the Thames and has toured with operatic groups as well as performing and recording with the quartet “Amore”. Her first adult musical performances were with “Our Lady’s”. Her recent tour with “The Pearl Fishers” was described as “sheer delight”.
Appearing for the first time in Motherwell will be the 45-strong City of Glasgow Wind Orchestra under its MD, Martin Thomson. Their mastery of a repertoire ranging from Film classics to Jazz, has been enjoyed by thousands here and abroad.
Our Lady’s Musical Society’s last performance in the Concert Hall was as backing to Aled Jones in “Amazing Grace”, although, of course their annual musicals in Motherwell Theatre are enjoyed by thousands. They and their returning MD, David Fisher have been rehearsing intensely to perfect their contributions to what will surely be a cornucopia of musical delights.
