Firebrand Theatre Company in association with Live Borders Arts & Creativity presents Nan Shepherd: A Play in Progress
Following the success of their live workshop reading of The Race to 1984 last year, award-winning Firebrand Theatre Company return to Heart of Hawick with a play- in-progress showcase of their moving and highly-entertaining new play, about acclaimed Scottish nature writer, Nan Shepherd. With poetry, humour and romance, Firebrand reveals the untold story of the extraordinary, unconventional woman who became the first female to be portrayed on a Scottish banknote. Directed by Richard Baron, the script-in-hand reading will show how Shepherd’s experiences as author, teacher, hillwalker, and lover helped shape Scotland’s recent literary history, while solving the mystery of why her masterpiece,The Living Mountain, lay forgotten in a drawer for over 30 years. As this is a play-in-progress event, Firebrand are keen to hear audiences’ opinions, so will be hosting a post-show discussion after both the Saturday afternoon and evening performances, with contributions from the actors, director and playwrights.
