Of This and Other Worlds - Science Fiction and Fantasy Reading Group
Please note that places for this reading group are very limited. If you book a place and can’t make it, we would be grateful if you could let us know as soon as you can so that we can offer your place to someone else.
Starting this February, we’ll be kicking off our Fantasy and Science Fiction reading group, exploring worlds both fantastical and horrific, monstrous and utopian. Whether your interests lie in exploring the ruins of a lost civilization, challenging fiends to save the world from ruin or delicately navigating the politics of a corporate interstellar McEmpire™ (Ask about our franchising options and get a free McNuke™!), I do hope you’ll join us on every 3rd Monday of the month.
For the next reading group of 2023, we’ll be returning to Earth to read of a world dealing with the aftermath of first contact.
When alien life descends to Earth, they speak to no-one. No signals of contact are given, no outreach is made. They remain on terrestrial for soil for two days and then depart. In their wake, humanity finds things of strange and unknowable nature, substances and artefacts that warp reality as we understand it.
This seems to be their garbage, refuse left behind by uncaring visitors.
But what is nothing more than trash to those who travel the stars offers incredible possibilities to the nations of Earth. And incredible danger.
Redrick 'Red' Schuhart is a Stalker, one of those individuals who risks the dangers of the alien Zone, seeking artefacts to sell on the black market. His chosen path is ridden with dangers, both from the alien anomalies that he seeks and the governmental forces desperate to keep the Zone's secrets under control. But the rewards are enough to tempt a man to take terrible risks...
The fifth session will be on May the 15th - Join us in the bookshop for a great conversation and some wine, snacks and pleasant company! Don’t worry if you couldn’t make it to any of prior sessions or have missed one, no knowledge of the prior reading groups is required.
