This amateur production of “Oh What a Lovely War” is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, LTD.
Joan Littlewood’s timeless classic Oh What a Lovely War is reimagined through the eyes of a youth and professional cast, reflecting the origins of the Byre Theatre.
The production imagines the play as a wartime concert, packed with familiar and well-loved songs, performed by an all-female troupe determined to entertain you. But what lies behind the performance? And what does it say about the lives of the women and children who were left at home during and, significantly, after the war? The music, fashion and stylings combine the historical with the modern while drawing poignant parallels with the many cycles and faces of war we have witnessed and experienced since the War to End All Wars and, indeed, since The Byre’s original staging 45 years ago.
This production is directed and designed by prominent and celebrated Scottish based director, Kenny Miller, whose recent work at Dundee Rep includes the critically acclaimed productions Witness for the Prosecution and Deathtrap.
