Come take a peek at some of the films created by Poems for Doctors in this installation.
Being a doctor can be highly emotionally challenging. Doctors regularly share the most personal, vulnerable, and crucial moments of other people’s lives. The online project Poems for Doctors uses poetry to help doctors to recognise their own experiences in those of others. In the short films shown at StAnza, medical professionals and trainees each read a poem and tell us why that poem chose them.
Poems for Doctors is a collaboration between the School of Medicine at the University of St Andrews and the Scottish Poetry Library. The project developed out of and builds on Tools of the Trade: Poems for new doctors, a poetry anthology given to all doctors graduating in Scotland. Each recorded reading provides a seed for informal online discussion, with the intention of fostering a community of encouragement and support.
