Calling all poetry lovers in Edinburgh – come and join us every second Monday of the month for our new poetry reading group, _VOICES._ From Queer and BAME voices, to Native American voices and voices in translation, our reading group will be an opportunity to explore an eclectic range of poetry.
No need to have read every poem from a collection or every collection from a poet! Come along for a casual conversation, to share interpretations and find meaning together.
This month, our poetry reading group follows one of your recommendations and turns to Will Harris' debut collection _Rendang_, winner of the Felix Dennis Prize for Best First Collection, and shortlisted for the 2020 T.S. Eliot Prize. A startlingly radical and surreal poetic journey, RENDANG takes the reader from West Sumatra to Planet Mongo via Gray’s Inn Road, alighting on Indonesian artefacts, gentrification, and citizenry. RENDANG is an urgent comment on what it means to be a person now, a dissection of and love letter to the histories, places, and things that make us. Through adept and complex language play, a ludic voice, and a masterful command of form, Will Harris creates a poetry that charts the ambivalences, difficulties, and voices of our contemporary landscape.
We hope to see you as always for a lovely chat, nibbles and a glass of wine!
