From the critically acclaimed songwriting partnership of Rachel Walker and Marcas Mac an Tuairneir comes Depositions - a stunning new suite of songs in Gaelic, Scots, Irish, Ukranian and English, featuring, and inspired by, the poetry of Anton Floyd. Supported by Creative Scotland, the work foregrounds the lived experience of refugees and displaced people, reimagining themes from Floyd’s celebrated collection of the same name and its recent translation into Gaelic, Scots and Irish.
Blending poetry, song, and social commentary, Depositions threads together stories of diaspora and clearance, bridging traditional and contemporary styles with clear links to the history and experience of the Scottish and Irish Gael.
Featuring ensemble arrangements by Seonaid Aitken alongside performances from Rachel Walker, Emily Smith, Liam Ó Maonlaí, Elzara Batalova and a host of renowned singers and musicians, this world première offers a powerful celebration of resilience, cultural exchange, and shared humanity.
Award-winning Uilleann piper and flautist Calum Stewart, has a powerful and lyrical playing style, which is rooted in the traditional music of his native Northern Scotland. Joined by Luc McNally (bouzouki), a formidable force in the Scottish traditional music scene, and percussive Scottish step dancer, Sophie Stephenson, whose percussive steps underpin the rhythms of the traditional dance tunes, the result is a vibrant and dynamic trio.
