An unforgettable day out exploring the beauty of Dee Valley with cheese and whisky tastings.
The Royal Whisky and Cheese tour is set to take you on a breath-taking journey up the Dee valley which over the centuries has been a well-loved route of Royalty, tourists and locals. The River Dee winds its way back from Aberdeen harbour to its source deep in the Cairngorms along the way exposing some very iconic landscapes and landmarks.
Our first stop will be at the Old Station in Ballater where we will get to see the Royal carriage and the Royal waiting room designed by Queen Victoria herself. We will then take a seat to enjoy a coffee and I will introduce you to Aberdeenshire’s famous “Buttery”, baked by one of our finest bakers to the most traditional of methods.
From here we will visit one of Scotland’s most exclusive whisky distilleries for a tour and a tasting of a dram fit for Royalty. The small scale and history of the distillery gives a real authentic feel for where the industry came from.
We will then take a short drive back over the River Dee to a wee café built and run by an artisan baker of the highest class. Here we will choose from the daily changing menu which features produce from Upper Deeside’s finest producers.
After lunch we will head to a local creamery and discover how one farming family’s traditional methods and recipes have been passed down from generations, to create some of the finest raw milk farmhouse cheeses on the market. Of course, this will be finished off with a cheese tasting.
We will now start making the journey back to Aberdeen but don’t worry we have one more delightful stop on the way. A family owned Deeside institution highly regarded by the community and tourists alike. I’d rather not say too much but expect a newsagent, which sells hardware, children’s toys, fine foods and also happens to have one of the largest collections of whisky and gin in Scotland!
Expect a comfortable scenic journey through Deeside where we will meet great people, hear their stories and sample some excellent locally produced food and drink.
This is a full day tour with pick up in Aberdeen at 9am and we will aim to return to the city for around 5pm. Collection and drop off can be arranged anywhere on the A93 Deeside route (Aberdeen-Aboyne) to make this tour more accessible from your home or holiday accommodation.
