We are pleased to bring you our first exhibition dedicated to the seas. The three painters in this show are committed to their art and to the character, beauty and mystery of our waters.
Being an island nation, British painters have been fascinated with our relationship with the sea for centuries. It beguiles and terrifies us. It imbues the sense of escapism; when both wild with the fury of the wind and calm on a halcyon day. It would be hard to stand at the water’s edge and look to out to sea and for it not to have an effect on our psyche. In the face of tremendous awe, we feel insignificant by comparison. We realise our weakness, our smallness and our mortality yet it is a powerful source of inspiration and energy. Sea Escape takes us on an evocative journey both physically and psychologically around the Scottish Coastlines.
