Join us for a very special show to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Theatre Royal Glasgow. Popular Scottish tenor and BBC broadcaster Jamie MacDougall fulfils a lifetime ambition recreating Jimmy Logan’s acclaimed ‘play with tunes’. Celebrating the life of Sir Harry Lauder, Jamie pays his own tribute to two legends of Scottish music hall who entertained audiences across the globe. Weaving together songs, including the ever-popular I love a lassie and Roamin’ in the Gloamin’, and stories of Sir Harry’s rags-to-riches life, Lauder is a warm and affectionate tribute to one of the Theatre Royal’s biggest stars. Once one of the highest paid performers in the world, Sir Harry Lauder rose to fame in 1905 in the Theatre Royal’s pantomime Aladdin. Following his son’s death during active service, he set up the Harry Lauder Million Pound Fund for Scottish soldiers returning from the war. Directed by Company Chordelia Artistic Director Kally Lloyd Jones, with Scottish Opera Head of Music Derek Clark as Music Director, Lauder gives a moving insight into the private self behind the hilarious public persona. Please note: Limited availability. With thanks to the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s Archives & Collections, custodians of the Jimmy Logan Archive including the Lauder scripts and scores.
