Translation was central to Scottish poet Edwin Morgan’s work as a writer. His lifelong commitment to making the voices of foreign cultures ring out in English and Scots was never a secondary preoccupation, and so we’re delighted this year to be showcasing the Edwin Morgan Trust translation workshop.
Throughout the week of StAnza 2019, three Scottish poets – Iain Galbraith, Em Strang and Kate Tough – and three Hungarian poets – Krisztina Tóth, Mónika Ferencz and Balázs Szöllősy – will be working together with facilitator Ken Cockburn to create new writing and to translate each others' work. Collaboratively, the poets, aided by a bridge translation, bring their fellow poets’ texts into their own tongue. Join us for a multilingual performance as they present and discuss their new work in translation: poetry doesn't come fresher than this!
This event is presented in partnership with the Edwin Morgan Trust and supported by the Hungarian Cultural Centre London
