The cafe will be open for the purchase of refreshments.
A friendly guide from the team at Falkirk Council will take you on a tour around the inside of The Hippodrome, Scotland’s oldest purpose-built cinema (established 1912). You will learn about local entrepreneur Louis Dickson - the man with the vision to open Scotland’s first picture palace - his architect Matthew Steele, and the unique building they created together. Hear the fascinating story of this remarkable venue, discover some of its quirky mysteries and get behind-the-scenes with an exclusive opportunity to visit the projection box.
The tour includes a 15 minute film about the magnificent restoration undertaken to restore the Hippodrome to its pre-Art Deco glory, and time for questions too.
Access: please note the balcony and projection box are accessible only by stairs, stairs to the latter are very steep and narrow.
