During this workshop, led by Glasgow based textile artist Elisabeth Viguie Culshaw, you will learn the basics of Indigo Dyeing using Shibori.
Shibori is an ancient technique involving folding, clamping and masking cloth fabric before dyeing it in a vat of Indigo dye to create a beautiful geometric pattern.
You will first practice a number of folded patterns on recycled cloth which you can take home with you – these, on their own, make beautiful home decorations. You will then learn how to ‘Upcycle’ and transform your own item of clothing using this traditional dyeing technique to take away with you.
The “Bring and Dye” series of events are part of Fashion Revolution, a worldwide movement to educate all on the importance of the clothing manufacturing processes and the rewarding aspects of upcycling, repairing, and reusing your clothes.
Please bring along your own small item of clothing to be dyed, such as a t-shirt, shirt, or basic top make sure you wash it with washing soda (supermarket) to clean the fiber ready to take the dye. No special skills are needed to take part in this workshop.
