Into The Mountain: A Meet is a convening for thinkers, practitioners and enthusiasts interested in the intersection and conversation between arts, dance, mountain and hill walking cultures.
The day will critically explore through talks, discussions and workshops, how women encounter and engage with mountainous environments, considering both historical and current perspectives of gender and access in relationship to Scottish landscapes.
Into The Mountain: A Meet will also delve into the entanglements between dance, mountaineering, contemporary feminist writing, anthropology and multiple arts practices.
The day’s full programme and speakers will be announced in the autumn.
This is a relaxed day in which children are also welcome.
Into The Mountain is a multi faceted project by artist and 2017 Tramway Associate Simone Kenyon and is inspired and informed by the lyrical and embodied prose of Nan Shepherd’s 1974 book, The Living Mountain. The live performance element of the project will take place in May 2019 in the Cairngorm mountains.
The project is produced and commissioned by Scottish Sculpture Workshop (SSW) and co-commissioned by Dance North, City Moves, The Tramway, Cairngorm National Park Authority.
It is also supported by Mountaineering Scotland, Aberdeenshire Council and Creative Scotland.
