Mercury is the third solo album from multi-award-winning Scottish singer-songwriter Siobhan Miller.. Miller creates music with detail and rich melodies that combine the sounds of indie and alternative music with her upbringing in Scotland’s folk music scene. The release of the album will be accompanied by an extensive UK tour.
Although this her third release as solo artist, Mercury is Miller's first album of entirely original material. Recorded in Glasgow with many of her frequent collaborators, including producer Euan Burton, it also features co-writes with Lau's Kris Drever and Admiral Fallow frontman Louis Abbott.
One of the themes of the album is memory, what we take with us over the years as the ‘important moments’, the precious nature of those memories and the curious process during which our brain decides what it will filter out without us really having control over it. Many of the songs see Miller looking at what we leave behind us in various chapters of our own lives and where we are headed for, individually and as a society.
Eli West & Olav Luksengård Mjelva is a collaboration between Norwegian fiddler Olav Mjelva and American guitarist Eli West. Both take equal interest in each others’ traditions, while leaving room for another tradition: The new sounds of collaboration. Eli West is a Seattle-based acoustic musician. His recent debut solo album, The Both, has him taking the lead on electric and acoustic guitars, banjo, and pedal steel, whilst remaining a thoughtful collaborator with some of his close friends and personal heroes, like jazz great Bill Frisell, new Americana discovery Dori Freeman, and Anna & Elizabeth.
Olav Luksengård Mjelva comes from Røros in the Sør- Trøndelag region of Norway. He began playing the fiddle at age seven and some years later started playing the Hardanger fiddle. He is a founding member of both the Norwegian – Swedish ensemble SVER, The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc, a trio specialising in Norwegian, Swedish and Shetland fiddle music and also the Rydvall/Mjelva duo alongside Swedish Nyckelharpa player Erik Rydvall with whom they have received several awards.
