Mahler - Symphony no. 2 ('Resurrection')
Brigitte Geller, soprano
Leeds Philharmonic Chorus
Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus
Markus Poschner, conductor
The full drama of Mahler’s all-embracing second symphony comes to life in performance in a way that very few recordings can hope to capture. With enlarged orchestral forces and a 140-strong choir this work is truly epic, offering up the composer’s apocalyptic vision of life, death and the hereafter. The work exemplifies Mahler’s innovative compositional approach, creating a “world of its own” in symphonic form.
Bruckner Orchester Linz spans 200 years of tradition and excellence. Mahler himself took his first professional conducting job just south of Linz in the summer of 1880. The Orchestra is joined by the Leeds and Sheffield Philharmonic Choruses, both with illustrious histories of their own.
With 200 musicians and singers on stage together performing Mahler’s momentous work in the wonderful Usher Hall acoustics, get ready for a mind-blowing Sunday Classics experience.
