Join us for a therapeutic textiles workshop to calm your mind.
"I'm delighted to be working alongside the Hub as part of their programme of events and workshops focusing on health and wellbeing.
I've been playing with textiles for as long as I can remember and there isn't a day goes by when I'm not creating something or thinking about it. I've spent the last twenty years coping with chronic nerve pain, six of which forced me to put my fabrics, needles and threads away. But I decided life's too short, pain killers can't be the long-term answer and I now use my craft as a total distraction and a way to take my mind off the things I don't want to think about."
- Sharon, from Sew Silly Lily
We'll play with fabrics, felt, natural materials, threads, buttons - layering them, deconstructing them, applying them and using simple hand embroidery and stitching to create a textile picture. Imperfection, mistakes and happy accidents can be just as beautiful as perfection, so don't worry if you're not an expert stitcher.
The cost of the workshop includes a rummage through a pile of scrap materials and everything else you might need.
This workshop is suitable for anyone; but especially those who'd like to try distraction as a coping strategy.
What you need to bring...
Please bring along any fabric scraps, felt, threads, embroidery floss, your button box, twigs, leaves, beach finds...
Taking this class is Sharon from Sew Silly Lily, a graduate of Glasgow School or Art with a lifelong passion for textiles, craft and design.
