The Cranston Fiddle is based on a true story about an ordinary family, torn apart by the First World War. Of seven brothers, four were killed in action and a fifth, Willie Cranston, returned home badly disfigured and missing some fingers. Despite his injuries, Willie continued to play and find comfort in his fiddle.
The Cranston Fiddle is a multi-media musical combining a slideshow of images and footage from the period with live violin performances. The music will consist of traditional tunes such as 'Bonnie Lass o Fyvie' and 'Mairi’s Wedding' which would have been played by Willie, around the time of the conflict. We are thrilled to announce that we'll also be showcasing some brand new compositions written especially for the show. This is a moving tribute to a man and his music and we are honoured to be able to use the original violin owned by Willie Cranston during the performance.
Prior to the show, you are invited to gather in our Officer's Mess for some nibbles and refreshments before entering the beautiful and atmospheric Chapel to enjoy the show.
