The Lady Vanishes
'THE LADY VANISHES' BY DEREK WEBB
On a train in Europe, headed for England, are a mixed group of travellers. A young lady called Iris Carr is suffering from sunstroke after standing for some time on the platform awaiting the train. Once on board, she is befriended in her carriage by the kindly Miss Froy. Iris falls asleep after luncheon, and wakes to find that Miss Froy has disappeared. The other passengers ominously deny Miss Froy ever existed, so Iris begins to investigate with the help of another traveller, Max Hare. There are some distinctly suspicious characters and lots of evasive manoeuvering but, as the pair try to find answers, romantic sparks fly!
The play is based on the original novel by Ethel Lina White, but fans of the 1938 Alfred Hitchcock adaptation will find this play version just as gripping.
