The Pearlfishers celebrate the recent release of their album, Love & Other Hopeless Things, in a return to live performance with shows in November 2019. One of Scotland’s most unique and enduring music collectives the group’s first release was the Sacred EP in 1991, followed by nine beautiful albums rooted in timeless songwriting and lush pop arranging. Principle songwriter David Scott is also the presenter of the long running BBC Classic Scottish Albums podcast, which topped the UK podcast charts throughout 2018, and his immersion in the classics is not lost on critics:
“The Pearlfishers’ David Scott stumbled upon the songwriting secret known only to a few celebrated figures in the mid-1960s - Paul McCartney, Jimmy Webb, Brian Wilson.” - THE SUNDAY TIMES
“The Pearlfishers’ delicate songs recall the lush, literate creations of Prefab Sprout.” - Q Magazine
Love & Other Hopeless Things was released in April 2019 on Hamburg’s Marina label, and has enjoyed extensive radio play across the UK and Europe and critical acclaim. As well as building a set list from 9 classic albums the group will be preparing for a series of archive releases of early 90’s Pearlfishers music later in the year. For now, as Shindig magazine recently commented ‘if you’re one who complains they don’t write ‘em like they used to, quit complaining and grab [The Pearlfishers] pronto.
“Scotland’s Van Dyke Parks. Luxuriant piano-led arrangements referencing influences like Morricone, Randy Newman and Michel Legrand underpin solid lyrical storytelling.” - WORD MAGAZINE
