The Scientist & The Siren is a story about where things meet. A marine scientist meets a mermaid on the edge of the land and the sea at a time when the two are getting ever closer. Exploring where dreams blur with reality, where humans become superhuman, and where breath turns into time, we follow the scientist and the siren on an interweaving journey on the edge towards the end of home as we know it.
This will be the second scratch performance of Caro Bridges' original fantasy folktale, and her first adventure into making a show, following a first development through a Pianodrome Resonancy. The show involves words, song, and sound, and features creator Caro Bridges kindly and expertly supported by fellow Pianodrome Resonator, Aurora Engine.
As this is a scratch performance, I’ll be asking for feedback after the show in a fun and hopefully not too onerous sort of way. I’ll also be selling an audio version for your listening pleasure.
Caro Bridges has lived and worked as a musician in Edinburgh for the past ten years, fronting her own band Caro Bridges & The River and collaborating with other musicians and bands along the way, including indie band The Last Battle, art rock group Randan Discotheque, jazz folk fusion trio Enharmonic Collective, and celtic soul troupe Ewan Macintyre Band. She primarily works as a choir leader and community musician, supporting diverse communities in creating and performing music they love. As a songwriter, she works jazz and folk influences into original and relatable songs with a sweet, dark and earthy sound.
Sir Tom Watton
Dubbed a knight by a punk poet, Sir Tom has been filling Edinburgh with colour, imagination, and song since 2010. A brilliant storyteller, musician, and songwriter, he’s the natural and perfect choice to open the evening.
