"And now that you have
found yourself within my love
how dare you leave?"
Sirens, that lure sailors into their deaths with their beautiful singing voices. Medusas, whose gaze is lethal. Inspired by Greek mythology Sophia Hembeck presents „The Siren Still Sings“ a series of cyanotype prints that feature an uncanny water-like quality. Looking closely into the deep blue of Hembeck’s cyanotypes one may find a Medusa or the echo of a Siren’s song shimmering on the surface.
Sophia Hembeck is a writer and visual artist based in Edinburgh. She has studied playwriting at the University of Arts in Berlin and recently published an essay collection called: "Things I Have Noticed – Essays on leaving / searching / finding" (2020).
