Thistle Doo is a group of recorder players based in West Kilbride, North Ayrshire. Each week we rehearse and play in the exhibition space in The Barony Centre. We have a core of five players who are joined by others for quintets and sometimes sextets, playing on a range of recorders: sopranino, soprano (descant), alto (treble), tenor, bass and great bass. Occasionally voices and other instruments are added to the consort. Our repertoire covers music from every century from the thirteenth to twenty-first. We play for pleasure for local societies and groups. Today we will be joined by soprano Elizabeth O'Malley, in Gaynor Barredell's Lament, which we performed at the commemoration of the Battle of Langside.
