Prolific performer Xabier Díaz is one of the best-known artists of Spain’s Galician traditional music scene. As a member of the much-loved folk band Berrogüeto, Diaz has achieved success for his albums with all-star ensemble aCadaCanto. His collaborations with all-female voice and percussion ensemble Adufeiras de Salitre have also won recognition for their explorations of his countrywomen’s traditional compositions that honour the origins of their music while exploring new styles.
The renowned Barzaz Trio was first created by iconic vocalist Yann-Fañch Kemener, wooden flute player Jean-Michel Veillonon, and guitarist Gilles Le Bigot. Joined by Alain Genty on fretless bass and David ‘Hopi’ Hopkins on percussion, Barzaz has won acclaim for its stunning ethereal sounds that have made a revolutionary, lasting impression on music in Brittany.
Having performed extensively in the late 80s and early 90s, Barzaz disbanded to pursue individual projects, but its members came together again in 2013 to embark on a new creative period. Sadly, following his death in 2019, Kemener could not play his part in this, but by young singer Youenn Lange has since joined Barzaz to help drive forward the group’s new adventure.
