Newcastle and Glasgow-based singer-songwriter and guitarist Zak combines emotionally raw vocals, poetic lyrics and intricate fingerstyle guitar to create original and distinctive songs.
This is part of a series of gigs to launch Zak's EP "Wrong Turns", recorded earlier this year in Port Appin in the Highlands of Scotland. Wrong Turns features four songs from Zak's original repertoire plus an instrumental track inspired by his background in traditional music. Acoustic songs have been reworked with layers of ambient synths and guitars, while "Both Our Crimes" gets a new stripped-down electric piano version. Zak’s influences include Josh Tillman, Bon Iver, Damien Rice and Leonard Cohen, and he draws on both trad and jazz in his writing. He has toured with Folkestra as well as headlining gigs and playing in bands and duos at festivals and venues around the North East of England, Scotland and beyond.
