Located at the foot of Calton Hill, Howies Waterloo Place is the perfect spot for lunch or dinner when exploring Edinburgh. 'Scottish, seasonal and seriously tasty' Howies has been working with local producers to create menus full of Scottish flavour for nearly 30 years.
Located in the East End of Princes Street, and at the foot of Calton Hill, we're the perfect spot if you're our exploring Edinburgh. ‘Scottish, seasonal and seriously tasty’, we work with local suppliers to create menus full of flavour featuring traditional Scottish dishes - including haggis, neeps & tatties and Cullen Skink - fresh fish, game and fantastic vegetarian and vegan options.
Open seven days a week, our chefs celebrate all that is great about Scottish produce. Our venison comes from our own estate in Glen Lyon, Perthshire. Our ghillie can tell us the exact journey from hill top to table, and because the deer are wild you can be sure you are going to enjoy very lean, flavoursome meat. Other Scottish game on our menus include pheasants, duck and pigeon from the Scottish Borders.
When it comes to fish, Scotland is one of the largest fishing nations in Europe so we're lucky to be able to source ours close to home. Our menus are packed with seafood, including salmon from the Shetland Isles, trout from Loch Etive, haddock from Peterhead, hake from the North Sea and mussels from Shetland (to name but a few). Come warmer months, you can look forward to lobsters from Eyemouth, teamed with fries and salad they're absolutely delicious!
We're also equally passionate about vegetarian and vegan dishes with our fruit and vegetables coming from just down the road in Tranent.
Our enthusiasm for working with local suppliers doesn't end there - our finely honed drinks list boasts over 20 wines by the glass, a fantastic range of Scottish craft beer as well as whiskies and gins from all over Scotland.
