located in the heart of strathbungo in glasgow's vibrant southside, the bungo was opened on 13 december 2011 by catherine hardy and jacqueline fennessy. they met working for big beat in the 90's (a glasgow company that had about 25 cool bars/restaurants and night clubs in Glasgow, dundee and aberdeen). the bungo is a popular local neighbourhood restaurant with a great community spirit serving up a contemporary menu changing with the seasons to reflect what is plentiful and with few food miles.
at the bungo we’re passionate about great flavours and fresh food. whether you’re looking for a light bite at lunch or something more substantial in the evening our menu is made up of delicious dishes with a focus on innovative dining created with seasonal and local produce. the bungo is a stylish, inviting bar & kitchen with a lively personality and relaxed ambiance – we love to make you feel welcome! unwind with a coffee, chat over lunch or gather with friends for dinner & drinks. alternatively, our comfortable atmosphere with free wifi access makes the bungo an ideal spot for informal business meetings.
we wanted to be a neighbourhood restaurant where locals and tourists could find something for everyone and everything was a really fantastic version, even if it were a day to day dish. home-made beef burgers on a great quality bun, our own beetroot relish, trademark fresh mayo with chipotle, ayrshire maris piper potatoes, scrubbed with their skin on and hand cut into the optimum 10mm square, tossed in maldon sea salt and fresh rosemary, we try to make every element of the dish count and add something.
to make life easier for those with intolerances or specific dietary requirements we avoid the use of flour in dishes where it isn't strictly necessary, never in soups or sauces. we always have a veggie soup option which is also suitable for vegans and we stock soya milk and ice cream as well as the vegan options on the menu. we keep a fryer free from flour for coeliacs, we can do gluten free fish suppers using gram flour.
