Since opening its doors in 2015 The Pheasant has gone from strength to strength gaining loyal local customers and popularity with visitors, often describing it as a “hidden gem”.
Husband and wife team Andrea and Morag Cuomo have worked hard to establish a restaurant in this rural area and have been awarded a number of accolades including The Food Awards Scotland SW Restaurant of the Year 2022 and Restaurant of the Year 2019 Dumfries and Galloway Life Awards.
Born and bred in Naples Andrea's cooking reflects his upbringing submerged in the rich culture of Italy. The menu is a combination of authentic Italian dishes inspired by his home kitchen as well as innovative recipes with Andrea’s own twist. The dessert menu is well worth saving space for as Morag’s love for foraging and using locally grown fruits comes across in her excellent desserts. Gorse ice-cream with yogurt, thyme and honey cheesecake and coconut pannacotta with hedgerow coulis and chocolate soil both seasonal favourites.
Using locally sourced produce is important to the small family business with the aim to support local suppliers whenever possible and take advantage of the wealth of high quality produce that Scotland and Dumfries and Galloway itself has to offer.
The Pheasant interior has been renovated with Morags creative eye; a modern rustic styled dining room with bespoke lighting, driftwood bar and original artwork create an elegant, warm and cosy atmosphere.
If you are looking for a memorable dining experience in Galloway then look no further than The Pheasant, Sorbie.
