Have a guided tour of the stores and look at collections from archaeology to agriculture, costume and textiles, natural history, ethnography, geology and more.
Inside this unassuming building on a Mintlaw industrial estate lies a world of treasure waiting to be discovered. Objects from all over the world, spanning millions of years are stored and conserved here. Whatever your area of interest, Aberdeenshire Museum Headquarters has something to show you - from peat spades and an Egyptian mummy’s head to Victorian underwear.
A friendly and enthusiastic member of staff will show you around the collections, and also give you a glimpse of how everything works 'behind the scenes at the museum'. Explore the conservation laboratory, where history meets science, the photography studio, where objects are presented in their best light to be entered onto the online database, along with the careful research and documentation carried out in order to understand each object fully.
Aberdeenshire Museum Headquarters also holds archival material from the north east of Scotland, available for those researching family histories. Copies of local history material, such as photographs, may be ordered (there will be a charge for this service).
The Aberdeenshire Museums team operates three museums throughout the county, and also a pop-up museums service in libraries across the region.
