Our much-loved Adam Smith Theatre is currently closed while it goes through a major refurbishment that will provide the town with a fantastic place to work, rest and play when it reopens in 2023.
Located in Kirkcaldy's town centre, the Adam Smith Theatre is a popular venue in a traditional setting, well-loved for its high-quality shows, full-scale cinema and long history as the heart of the local arts scene. First opened in 1889 as a memorial to groundbreaking architect Adam Smith, this stunning theatre has an impressive facade and over looks the Memorial Gardens and another ONFife venue, Kirkcaldy Galleries.
Enjoy a fantasticly diverse and popular programme of events at this 475-seat venue, including comedy, dance, drama, music, and children's theatre. The theatre also supports and hosts local arts organisations, such as Kirkcaldy Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Societies, as well as classes and workshops. The Adam Smith Pantomime is always popular and offers a magical festive introduction to theatre for the local population.
When not in use for live performances, the main auditorium becomes a cinema, showing recently released blockbusters and classic films as well as hosting mini film festivals.
The Cafe Bar serves a selection of soup, sandwiches and cakes as well as our own blend of coffee, Lang Spoon Coffee, with all profits from sales reinvested into OnFife. The café bar is open: Mon. - Sat. 10am -3pm, Fri. and Sat. 6pm - 11pm and from one hour before performances
Getting there by railway:- From Kirkcaldy Railway Station head to the main road and the theatre is directly opposite, or, on foot go through Memorial Gardens and the theatre is straight ahead.
